How Much Is a Custom Challenge Coin?

Coin pricing is not a single number, it is a stack of choices. Here is every factor that moves it, so you can tell where your budget shows in the hand and where it does not.

Why nobody can quote you from one sentence

Two coins of the same diameter can differ several times over in cost. The die, the metal, the number of enamel colours, the effects, and above all the quantity all move the figure. Anyone who quotes a firm price before seeing your artwork and run size is guessing.

We quote per project. The list below is what we are actually pricing when we do.

Quantity does most of the work

The die is cut once, and that cost is spread across the run. This is why per-coin cost drops sharply as quantity rises, and why 50 coins never costs a tenth of what 500 does. If a second batch is likely, ordering it in the same run is almost always cheaper than reordering later.

Size and thickness

More metal and more die depth cost more. Moving from 1.75 to 2.5 inches, or from 3mm to 4mm, both raise the figure. Both also change how the coin feels, so this is usually money well spent rather than the first thing to cut.

Colour and finish

Each of these is a separate line in a quote:

  • Number of enamel colours, and whether one or both faces take colour.
  • Hard enamel (polished flush with the metal) versus soft enamel (recessed, textured).
  • Metal plating — antique gold, antique silver, polished silver, copper, black nickel, dual plating.
  • Special effects — glitter enamel, pearl, translucent colour, glow in the dark, UV printing.
  • Techniques — 3D sculpted relief, raised or recessed metal, serialisation, diamond-cut edges.

Shape, edge and extras

A custom cut shape needs its own tooling rather than a standard round blank, so it adds cost. So do numbered serialisation, cut-outs, and epoxy or laser add-ons. Packaging is separate again: loose in a poly bag, velvet pouch, acrylic case, or a display stand.

Where to spend, and where not to

If the budget is fixed, spend it on relief depth, hard enamel, and thickness. Those are what people notice when the coin is in their hand. Save on packaging and on extra colours in areas the eye does not linger.
